Sustainability & Climate Action

As we focus on the development of our players through engagement in sport, Railway Union Football Club also understands that we should be engaged in trying to secure the safety and quality of their future through a focus on sustainability and climate action. Railway Union Football Club is currently working on a comprehensive approach to how we can make a contribution to our community through sustainable club operations and management. We will update this section of our website as we evolve and develop our approach. We invite parents, players and members of our community to make suggestions on how we can lower our carbon footprint and help protect the environment.

We ask our parents and coaches to consider:

i) car pooling wherever possible, especially for away-games
ii) ban single use plastics and packaging such as water bottles and take-away coffee cups wherever possible at training sessions & home and away games and use sustainable & re-usable keep-cups and bottles instead.
iii) Please consider rehoming unwanted and outgrown kit within our community - either directly or through skoolstuff.ie

Sustainable Clothing and Kit

Railway Union Football Club has sourced its kit and merchandise from Wolfhound & Elk, an Irish sports wear company that produces high quality sportswear in an ethical and sustainable manner. All products are made in the European Union using recycled, organic and certified materials from trusted fabric mills.

We look to Upcycle & Reuse our Clothing & Kit

Railway Union Football Club looks to source recycled and sustainable materials for our kit. We also support our community and members in upcycling and reusing clothing and kit wherever possible. We partner with skoolstuff.ie to provide a platform where perfectly good kit and boots can be re-homed with other members of the Railway Union FC community once you and yours have out-grown and out-loved them! Please consider rehoming unwanted and outgrown kit prior to recycling it.

Locally Sourced Goal Nets

Railway Union Football Club’s goal nets are sourced locally here in Ireland from Dermot and the team at KT Nets, fishing net manufacturers based just outside Killybegs in Donegal. While currently largely polyethylene in composition, we hope to embrace more sustainable materials in the future as they become available. We are delighted to be working with an indigenous Irish company who create our football nets here in Ireland and look forward to further developing our relationship with the team at KT Nets.
